What/who is Wanita Suara Perubahan?
Wanita Suara Perubahan is a coalition of 15 NGOs (including SIS) that calls for a clean government. Wanita Suara Perubahan calls upon all women voters to participate in the 13thGeneral Elections and to choose good leaders in both State and Federal Governments – leaders who will accept and realise our demands.
For social media purposes, we adopt the nick 'wanitasuperMY' (as in 'Wanita Suara Perubahan Malaysia') as it is catchy and memorable.
We launched on the 24th of February 2012, and our press statement was released on the same day. In conjunction with International Women's Day 2012, we will hold a rally on the 18th of March 2012 themed, 'A Clean Government', where we expect to mobilize 10,000 people to walk with us.
Why are women demanding a clean, corruption-free and accountable government?
Women are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of corruption, racism, exploitation, divisive politics and a curtailment of civil liberties. Millions of ringgit have been misspent that should have been used to ensure adequate housing, health, transportation, education, living wages and environmental protection. Women suffer the consequences of unjust laws as well as poor enforcement of laws relating to personal safety and gender-based violence.
Six Demands of Wanita Suara Perubahan
Wanita Suara Perubahan believes that a clean government can be achieved if these six demands are fulfilled:
1. A government free of corruption.
2. A decent living wage.
3. A better quality of life.
4. An end to violence against women and all genders.
5. Repeal the Peaceful Assembly Act 2011.
6. Free and fair elections.
As part of the International Women's Day celebration and to push for these demands, on 18 March 2012, Wanita Suara Perubahan will walk to PADANG ASTAKA, PETALING JAYA. Be there!
